Nicklaus said “In 1955 I was 15 years old. And I qualify for national amateur. It was at the James River Course Country Club of Virginia and Richmond, Virginia. And so I went down on the last practice round, I had a shot in the 18th screams, a long par 4 and there’s a gentleman carting next to the green and he treats me like that and he posed as Bobby Jones in front.”

He added, ‘Anyway, after dinner he came down to me and said, Jack, wait a minute. He says I want to come out and watch you play tomorrow if you don’t mind. So I kept looking over my shoulder. Where’s Bobby Jones, where’s Bobby Jones, and all that down the 10th hole comes a cart. And here comes Bobby Jones to watch me play golf. I’m a 15 year old kid.”

The words of the six-time Masters winner prove the immense talent he possessed from an early age. It also proves that Bobby Jones was a true gentleman.
